Fandom: Harry Potter and the Outing of Albus Dumbledore
JKR's rather flippant way of answering the question of whether Albus Dumbledore was in love, with "No, he's gay" to me, seemed far less like making a revelation than like "Hmmm, how can I stir up controversy and get myself, my books and my future projects back on the front page. I know, let's make Dumbledore gay."

From the books, I know more about Aberforth's interest in goats (and hence implied bestiality) than I ever did about Albus's sexuality. So, anyone claiming that no clue or reference could have been provided somewhere in the books about Albus Dumbledore's sexuality because it would have compromised the story is missing their clue by four.

Rowling knows exactly what she's doing in making this announcement: teasing her bread-and-butter fans (those who will spend money on anything HP related) to continue the revenue stream, as they continue to purchase whatever follow-up HP material she will produce. She'll have garnered free publicity from the religious right extremists in the US, who will now not only be protesting about the film's satanism but the icky, ebol gai! And how many more folks might now attend the movies to see Dumbledore's "gayness", as if he'll suddenly morph into a completely different person.

I regret that fandom is accepting this pronouncement as some sort of biblical revelation, and not as the self-serving, marketing ploy/parody that JKR has become.
